The beach end and the village end

South of the railway, down towards Beach Green and the lagoon, is properly exposed — a lot of interwar and post-war bungalows and chalets, many extended, with the shingle and then open water in front of them. North of the line the ground rises gently towards the Downs and the exposure eases. Same postcode, two specifications, and we price them differently.

Bungalows, extensions and a great deal of flat roof

As at Peacehaven, the low-built seaside stock here has been extended repeatedly over eighty years, and every extension brought another flat roof with it. Where those are still on felt they are usually the reason someone rings us. A bonded system with properly fixed trims is a different proposition entirely on a plot this open.

Big roofs as well as small ones

Lancing has some substantial buildings for its size, including school and institutional roofs of a scale you do not often meet in a seaside town. Large slopes, long valleys and long gutter runs need surveying along their whole length, and they need scaffolding planned rather than improvised.
