Port-town roofs need a different survey

Large-span commercial roofs are usually profiled sheet or single-ply rather than tile, and what goes wrong is fixings backing out, laps opening up and outlets undersized for the area they are being asked to drain. Long gutter runs need checking along their whole length rather than at one end. They are satisfying roofs to put right, and we quote them from a proper survey rather than a rate per square metre.

The valley, and the two sides of it

The town runs up the Ouse valley with high ground either side, which gives it more shelter than you would expect of a place with a harbour mouth. The front and the port are properly exposed; a few streets up the valley the picture changes noticeably. It is a good illustration of why we survey the property rather than the postcode.

Salt where the boats are

Anything within sight of the harbour is getting salt in the air daily, and the marine and industrial buildings around the port get it worst of all. Non-ferrous fixings and stainless fittings are the baseline there, and galvanised is a false economy however well it is painted.
